Million dollar Canowindra emergency department redevelopment opens

The Canowindra Soldier’s Memorial Hospital has opened its newly redevelopment emergency department.

The million dollar project has relocated the emergency department, providing a purpose-built, two-bed space that is more easily accessible by ambulances, and includes ramp access at its entry.

Parliamentary Secretary for Natural Resources and Western NSW, Rick Colless MLC, performed the opening on Thursday 21 December.

"The emergency department here has around 1,400 presentations and this redevelopment ensures the staff here have the environment and facilities they need to do their work as effectively as possible. The work also improves access for the public," Mr Colless said.

"This hospital has a great history and is an important part of the local community, so it’s important to have this kind of investment."

Canowindra Health Service Manager Janice Rumph said she was pleased to see the redeveloped Emergency Department.

"This redevelopment ensures that we have the best facility possible to deliver excellent patient care to our community," Janice said.

"Improvements to the Ambulance entrance will ensure that patients can be transported from the Ambulance to the Hospital more quickly.

"This has been a big year for Canowindra Hospital and the results are more than worth it."

The ED was completed by Renascent, with the build taking approximately 20 weeks.
