Residents encouraged to make the most of hydrotherapy

Are you over 50 and need regular gentle exercise in a warm hydrotherapy pool? Canowindra Health Service provides a service which takes clients to Orange every Tuesday for a gentle exercise class in a hydrotherapy pool.

“This outing is great for people with arthritis who want to get their joints and muscles moving, but find that exercise on land is very difficult," Canowindra Enrolled Nurse Cheryl Page said.

Home and Community Care fund most of the bus hire and fuel, and the bus is driven by volunteers to make it more affordable for everyone. Clients contribute a small amount toward bus costs and pool entry and clients are asked to provide their own lunch. The bus leaves Canowindra Health Service at 10am every Tuesday and is usually back around 2pm.

Canowindra Primary and Community Health Manager and Physiotherapist, Ashley Wright is encouraging more people to use the hydrotherapy service.

“Exercises in warm water is one of the most beneficial activities for people over 50, so we would love to see new clients talking advantage of this great service," Ashley said.

“We can't run the classes without enough people, so if this sounds like something you might benefit from, come along and give it a go."

“The service can help people manage chronic health problems and helps clients stay healthy as they age."
