For the past 45 years the Forbes Oral Health Clinic has been looking after the oral health for Forbes children and the surrounding districts.
The Oral Health Clinic now resides at the Forbes Hospital, near pathology. It was previously located at the Forbes Public School.
Dental Therapist, Jackie Darcy and Dental Assistant Karen Banks have been working in the Forbes Clinic for a combined 35 years.
They both love their jobs and say one of the biggest rewards is working with children.
“It’s a privilege to work with the kids, they make work so much fun”.
“We have many rewarding moments, from guiding the nervous child to overcome their fear of even sitting in the big dental chair and opening wide, to being able to provide the treatment for them”. Jackie said.
“There’s nothing better than seeing happy children in the waiting room eager to attend their appointments”.
“We believe this success is achieved by providing an environment that is reassuring, taking the time to make the child feel comfortable and safe”. Karen added.
Oral Health Manager Southern, Lea Hope said, “She is very proud of the work Jackie and Karen do. They are shining examples of how the oral health team provides dental care to children”.
The Forbes Oral Health Service provides free care to all children until they turn 18.
“We provide a free service and appointments can be made by contacting 1300 552 626. Parents are encouraged to give consent for the Local Health District to bulk bill under the Children Dental Benefit Schedule”. Lea said.
