Sometimes you need to get creative to beat the heat and the exactly what the staff and residents have done at the Nyngan Health Service this summer.
Nyngan Summers are hot, dry and this year especially very dusty. But the Nyngan Health Service residents have not been bothered by the heat this summer.
Nyngan Health Service Manager, Jenny Griffiths said, “One of our nurses, Lyn Webster, came up with the idea to create a tranquil, restful area for the residents, families and staff to enjoy, in a previously unused area”.
In true Nyngan Health Service style the staff rolled up their sleeves to help.
“It was under the guidance of Lyn and the green thumb advice from Trish McLeod that a new and amazing space was created for everyone to enjoy.
“Even the residents got involved helping with the plant selection and the décor choices”. Jenny said.
It involved everyone across the Health Service, with our local maintenance team, Richard and Justin installing a misting watering system.
“We would also like to say a massive thank you, to the Nyngan Men’s Shed, who donated a rustic sign for our rainforest retreat.
“It’s been a huge hit with the residents and staff, sitting back and watching the mist drip off the leaves of the tropical plants as the dust swirls around and the temperature rises outside”. Jenny said.
