Grenfell doctor update

The much anticipated arrival of Grenfell’s new doctor has been delayed slightly due to unforeseen circumstances.

Western NSW Local Health District Director of Operations Lynne Weir said the District is working very closely with the recruitment agency to ensure Dr Patrick Akhiwu can start work in the town as soon as possible.

“Dr Akhiwu is very excited and eager to start his practice in Grenfell. There has been an unexpected delay in clerical processing, but we are all working hard to make sure that is rectified as a matter of urgency, and he and his family can make their new home in Grenfell in the coming months.” Ms Weir said.

Dr Akhiwu and his wife and two children will be relocating to Grenfell from Botswanna.

“His skills are extensive and varied, and he will be a great asset to the Grenfell community. We will keep the community informed about the appointment process,” said Ms Weir.

Dr Akhiwu has confirmed plans to set up a GP practice in the Burrangong Street surgery, which is owned by Weddin Shire Council, and is prepared to service the GrenfellMulti Purpose Service (MPS) as a VMO.
