Gardens to bloom at Bathurst’s daffodil cottage

Daffodil Cottage will proudly unveil it’s beautiful new gardens at a ceremony on Tuesday, 28th February, 2012.

Daffodil Cottage Nurse Unit Manager, Marita Tipene said the renovated gardens will provide a peaceful and tranquil setting for patients, staff and visitors.

“The new gardens are just beautiful and we expect them to become even more so over the coming years as the plants mature, bloom and change with the seasons.

“This work was made possible thanks to many generous donations from the local community and will be enjoyed and appreciated by all.” Ms Tipene said.

The primary focal point for the gardens is a commemorative fountain, kindly donated by the Bathurst Prostate Cancer Support Group, in memory of their former member Danny White, who actively raised significant funds for the group.  Mr White’s family members will be present at the opening ceremony.

“The water feature is a very special aspect of the gardens.  We are glad to be able to honour Danny and the work he did in this way,” said Ms Tipene.

Daffodil Cottage provides cancer and palliative care services to patients in the Bathurst area.

Ms Tipene said patients and their families often spend long hours receiving treatment at the Cottage and the new gardens were created in order to make this time more pleasant.

“We hope patients and their families will benefit greatly from the different aspects of this garden.  The garden rooms, paths and seats are designed to provide relaxing places for meditation and reflection,” said Ms Tipene.

Local landscape gardening company Alessandro Gardens created the beautiful space using a formal design and plants including lavender, camellias, magnolias and hedging.  The project took approximately 2 months to complete and is expected to provide years of enjoyment for the community.

The opening ceremony will take place in the gardens of Daffodil Cottage at 2:00pm on Tuesday 28th February 2012.
