Aged care on the agenda in Bathurst

Planning for the future of aged care services in Bathurst will be addressed at an aged care provider industry forum to be held later this month. (Thursday 23 February 2012)

Aged care industry providers will meet with expert and local service providers to examine the current services available in the Bathurst region.

“This is a unique opportunity for aged care service providers working in the Bathurst Region to here from  industry specialists and discuss the future of aged care services for our region”

“It’s also a chance for people to raise suggestions and concerns about aged care services, and have their concerns heard by the team of people charged with improving the services.” Acting Community and Allied Health Manager Katreena Forsyth said.

The forum is a joint initiative between Western NSW Local Health District, Catholic Healthcare and Bathurst Regional Council.

“Aged care has been identified as an area that needs further discussion to provide better services in the future. We want to engage with aged care industry providers to network and share aged care pathways, we need to connect and determine the community’s needs and work out how we can best achieve positive care outcomes for older persons said Ms Forsyth.

The forum will hear from key note speakers, Roberta Flint, Manager of Home and Community Care Branch for the Department of Health and Aging. Mr Nick Mersiades,  Policy Director Catholic Health Care and CSU academic Zelma Bone who has recently published an article on the mapping of aged care funding in regional Australia.

“We will also hear about what aged care looks like now, and what it may potentially look like 10 years from now. This should be a very interesting workshop experience.

“Aged care is a topic that affects us all and this is a great chance to contribute to the future of aged care services in Bathurst.” It is a great opportunity to communicate and share knowledge about funding and referral options for aged care providers to access. Ms Forsyth said.

The Bathurst Aged Care Industry Forum will be held on Thursday 23 February at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre from 9am – 4pm.
