High quality health care projects in the spotlight

A record number of nominations have been assessed by judges in the competitive 2012 Western NSW Local Health District (LHD) Awards.

The finalists will feature at the prestigious Health Awards Expo, which will showcase excellence in high quality health care and formally recognise projects and initiatives that have brought about improvements to health outcomes and patient care.

Western NSW LHD Director of Clinical Governance, Di Wykes, said the awards acknowledge the invaluable contributions made by staff towards improving patient safety, clinical quality and health system performance.

“The Health District is committed to supporting staff in their endeavours to improve the quality and safety of care and services provided.

“The award ceremony provides participants with the opportunity to meet, network and form partnerships with other health professionals within the Local Health District, “said Ms Wykes.

14 finalists have been chosen from an impressive 32 entries this year and will present their projects at the expo.

The 2012 finalists are;


  • Bourke Alcohol Action Plan
  • Little Changes Make Big Impact
  • Boostrix Immunisation Clinic for parents and grandparents of newborn babies at Orange health Service
  • Improvement and standardisation of materials storage at Orange Health Service
  • Implementation of DETECT course in a rural area
  • Clinic 96: Hepatitis C treatment in a Community Setting
  • Ortho-geriatric guideline based care within Orange Health Service
  • Antimicrobial Stewardship at Orange Health Service
  • WNSWLHD Flood Evacuation Plan Template
  • Centre of Excellence in Education and Training
  • Rylstone Kandos Aqua Fitness Program
  • Improving Medication Safety on Discharge

 “A number of the finalists will go on to be nominated for the 2012 NSW Health Awards. We are certainly very proud to be able to showcase so many outstanding projects and initiatives that our Health District is leading.” Ms Wykes said.

The presentation of awards will be held in at Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo on Wednesday 27 June 2012.
