Up to 120 Aboriginal Health Workers and other Health Professionals from across New South Wales (NSW) will gather in Dubbo on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 October 2012, for the annual Aboriginal Health Workforce Forum.
Western NSW Local Health District (LHD), Director Aboriginal Health, Linda Williams said the forum is a great opportunity for Aboriginal Health Workers to meet, network and to be informed about new and existing programs that are being implemented across the LHD and NSW
“It is an excellent opportunity to inform and support front line staff, identify partnership opportunities, nurture new ideas and to build networks across health and human services sector,” said Ms Williams.
This year’s Forum will focus on workforce development, chronic disease, cultural respect and closing the gap.
Since 2006 the Forum has continued to grow and improve and based on previous Forum evaluations, Aboriginal Health Workers, LHD Staff and all health sector representatives look forward to attending the Forum each year.
“A highlight of this year’s Forum will be the launching ‘Didja Know’ which is an Aboriginal cultural information booklet.
“Didja Know has been developed locally by the Aboriginal Health Management Team on behalf of Western NSW LHD.” Ms Williams explained.
The Didja Know booklet features artwork painted by Jasmine Sarin, Jasmine’s artwork won the recent Western NSW LHD Aboriginal Artwork Competition, the artwork will be on display at the Forum and will now become the logo and branding for Aboriginal Health within Western NSW LHD.
Media is invited to attend the Forum at the Dubbo showground on Wednesday 24 October.
Please note morning tea break is scheduled for 11am – the Forum runs from 9am – 5pm.
