Two Health Infrastructure projects, delivered in partnership with Western NSW Local Health District (LHD), have been awarded the commercial building industry’s most prestigious awards at a gala black tie event held in Sydney recently. (Saturday 3 November 2012).
The annual Master Builders Association (MBA) Excellence in Construction Awards attracted entries from the state’s largest commercial, industrial and civil contractors in a range of categories and price divisions and are highly contested by the major contractors operating in New South Wales.
Western NSW LHD Chief Executive, Dr Pim Allen, announced that both Orange and Bathurst hospitals were recognised for their outstanding excellence in construction amid tough competition by a panel of industry experts.
“I am proud that these two facilities have been recognised at this high level. It is real credit for two of the Health District’s newest facilities.” Dr Allen said.
Orange Health Service won in the Health Buildings $100,000,001 & over category. This major hospital development, was carried out by construction firm Hansen Yuncken, and comprised three new buildings including a 36,872 square metre general hospital as well as refurbishments to four existing buildings.
“The judges considered it a remarkable facility, saying that it was a major and most impressive regional hospital.” said Dr Allen.
Bathurst Hospital Stage 2 took the honours for Health Buildings Up to $10,000,000. Constructed by Fugen Constructions, Stage 2 consisted of the complete internal refurbishment and fit-out of the heritage listed building.
“New construction work was also carried out in the main hospital building whilst keeping the hospital fully operational. I am advised that the judges were particularly impressed by the very intricate and difficult internal structural rectification and earthquake strengthening works required within the heritage listed building.” Dr Allen said.
Health Infrastructure has congratulated both the contractors involved on their success in winning these prestigious awards.
The Excellence in Construction Awards feature prominently in high quality publications following the award evening and winners may be submitted for consideration in the MBA National Awards Competition.
