Staff from the Western NSW Local Health District are encouraging local food businesses in Wellington to take part in the Fresh Food Friday promotion in which the town’s residents will be urged to choose healthier options when it comes to buying lunch.
Melissa Pellow, Dietitian and Exercise Physiologist with the Wellington Health Service, said the aim of Fresh Food Friday is to help make the decision of choosing a lunch that is both good for you and tasty a little easier by putting one of these choices in the spotlight.
“Every Friday for six weeks, a local food outlet will be offering a healthier food option for lunch with a free bottle of water. ‘Food 2 Go’ is the first local food outlet taking part in Fresh Food Fridays,” she said.
Ms Pellow says she would like to see the Fresh Food Friday specials become a permanent fixture on the lunch time menus of the local food outlets.
“We all know the benefits of eating a healthy diet but sometimes we get confused with what foods are better for us, especially with the amount of information and advertising around. Knowing that you can go into a local food outlet and easily identify and purchase a healthy lunch can help alleviate any confusion,” she said.
“Keep your eyes peeled to see what tasty and healthy food specials the local food outlets will be offering over the next six weeks,” Ms Pellow added.
