Blayney Health Council is looking for new members to join them to assist Blayney District Hospital gain an understanding of the health issues and needs of the local community.
According to Chair of the Blayney Health Council, Suellen Kennedy, the Council has a variety of roles including bringing local health needs and issues to the attention of the health service and participating in the planning, development and evaluation of health services.
“We also promote and seek to improve the health of the local community in partnership with others,” Mrs Kennedy said.
Blayney Health Council meets monthly at Blayney District Hospital and currently has members with a variety of views, skills and experience as well as an interest and concern about a wide range of health issues. Current members are Suellen Kennedy, Kathleen Hillier, Melissa Humphris, Lynne Davidson, Sean Duong, Scott Ferguson, Allan Ewin, Colin Crome, Tania Wills, Mark Adams, Nyree Reynolds and Judy Cook.
“Our members are active participants in the meetings and other Health Council activities and we strive to reach consensus in decisions made at our meetings,” Mrs Kennedy said.
“To understand local health service issues it’s important that we consult with and create networks in the community, which we do by being involved with various community organisations”.
“Our members are committed to staying involved, maintaining an interest and contributing to the planning of health services and programs,” she said.
Health Council members are appointed for a term of two years and can apply for a further term of two or four years. Applicants are required to agree to a criminal record check and if accepted as a health councillor are expected to comply with the NSW Ministry of Health Code of Conduct.
One of the current activities of Blayney Health Council is the organisation of the Spring Ball on 26 October 2013. The event is being organised in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Blayney.
“All proceeds from the ball will go towards the purchase of a new wheelchair accessible community bus, so we encourage people to come along and support this worthy cause,” Mrs Kennedy said.
