Western NSW Local Health Network will sign a significant partnership agreement with the Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service Co-op Ltd (WAMS) on Wednesday 2nd February 2011.
Signatories to the partnership will be Western NSW Local Health Network Walgett Health Service Manager, Ms Georgiana Butt and Chief Executive Officer Walgett Aboriginal Health Service, Ms Christine Corby. Also attending will be Western NSW Local Health Network Area Manager Aboriginal Health, Ms Linda Williams, A/Director Health Service Operations, Ms Belle Mangan and the Chief Executive Officer, Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council (AH&MRC) Ms Sandra Bailey.
Ms Linda Williams said the Walgett Local Aboriginal Health Partnership is based on a historic partnership formed in 1995 between the NSW Department of Health and the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of NSW (AH&MRC).
“The Walgett local agreement will facilitate both Western NSW Local Health Networks and WAMS working collaboratively to ensure positive health outcomes for the Aboriginal community of Walgett.”
Ms Williams said as part of the partnership arrangement, local service agreements (LSA) will be entered into which will assist in providing culturally appropriate and quality health services to the Aboriginal community of Walgett, through joint planning, community development and clinical service delivery.
“An agreed partnership enables Western NSW Local Health Network to utilise the expertise within the Aboriginal community to enhance and improve health service delivery and reciprocally enables WAMS to utilise the clinical expertise within the area,” said Ms Williams.
Western NSW Local Health Network also has existing partnerships with ACCHS in Bourke, Brewarrina, Orange, Coonamble, Condobolin and Forbes.
The agreement will be signed at 12 noon at the Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service: 37 Pitt Street Walgett NSW 2832.
