Free drumming sessions will be held by Western NSW Local Health District’s Mental Health and Drug & Alcohol (MHDA) Service from Wednesday, 30 April at the Macquarie Conservatorium.
The sessions are open to people over the ages of 16, their families and carers, MHDA staff, non-government organisations and community members, whether or not they use the MHDA services.
The Drumming Sessions are part of the Love Your Life: Arts, Health & Well-being Program, which is run by the Love Your Life committee in partnership with Macquarie Conservatorium, Orana Arts and Outback Arts. This program already has Weaving Connections, Drumming Sessions, the Arts in Health Symposium and Rotating Art & Photography Exhibition under its belt.
According to Dubbo MHDA Health Promotion Officer Yvonne Muyambi, the Love Your Life Committee intends to continue introducing arts in health projects such as the Drumming Sessions, in Dubbo and surrounding areas.
“The Love Your Life Committee has partnered with Mission Australia this year to ensure the continuity and sustainability of the Drumming Sessions,” Ms Muyambi said.
“They are a fun and interactive way for people to learn new skills, relieve stress, develop coping strategies and interact with different people”.
The Drumming Sessions will be held every Wednesday (excluding school holidays) from 12.30 – 1.30pm at the Macquarie Conservatorium at 72 Bultje Street, Dubbo. Bookings are required as places are limited – please phone Yvonne Muyambi on 6881 4161 to book.
