Warren Invited To Get Active With August Walking Challenge

The Warren community is being encouraged to become more active with a Walking Challenge planned throughout the month of August

The Living Well Together Walking Challenge is being organised by Warren Multi-Purpose Health Service Health Council in conjunction with the Warren Sports & Cultural Centre.

Pat Christoff from the Warren Health Council said teams of five are invited to take part in the four week walking challenge.

“Participants measure their steps each day using a pedometer which is recorded on a step count record,” she said.

“The nominated team then collects the total number of steps taken by the team and emails their team’s weekly total to the co-ordinator”.

All teams participating will go into the draw for a prize, with a prize and trophy also awarded to the team who walks the most steps.

The Living Well Together Walking starts on Friday 1st August and ends Sunday 31st August 2014.

“Each week we’ll provide lots of encouragement to keep participants going, including sending out update emails with motivational tips and the latest news on how we are all progressing,” Patricia said.

“We also encourage people to personalise their team by giving it a funny team identity.  There will be a prize for the most amusing team name”.

Participants will be asked to answer a few questions in a survey which will be used to measure the impact of the challenge on their health and wellbeing.

Local chemists Carolina and Andreas Siufi have generously donated 100 pedometers for the challenge.

“As we have a limited number of pedometers they will be issued on a first come first served basis. We also encourage people to use their Iphone/Android mobile which have their own apps”.

To register please email Wes Hamilton at warrenscc@bigpond.com with the name of your team, including the name of your team captain, and arrange for a pickup of the pedometers and a step count record sheet.
