Aquafitness classes have been running in your town for all members of the community during pool season. With the start of season, classes have now recommenced and everyone is invited to join in.
Aqua Leaders Margo Mackenzie, Cheryl Cunningham, Tina Curry, and Greg Lewis-Phillips welcome old and new recruits to contact them at the Community Health Centre or your Health One Centre for dates and times of these. Cost is pool entry & a gold coin donation.
Margo said “Most people love the water and Aquafitness is an excellent way for people of all ages and conditions to be more active. While some people can’t exercise on land, almost everyone can exercise in the water. Even non-swimmers can do aqua fitness classes.”
Last year the Aqua participants attended classes twice a week and had a lot of fun while getting fitter. Participants were thrilled with their range of movement without pain they have in the water, how much fitter they are including improvements in breathing and other health problems. Aqua fitness is good for people with arthritis, diabetes, asthma or cardiac conditions or anyone who just wants to be more active. If joint pain limits you on land, then the water is the place you need to be.
Our Aqua team leaders have been trained at a two day Aqua Leader Workshop with the highly respected trainers. They recently attended a yearly Refresher Day to keep up to date with the latest research and techniques. Training is organised by the Health Promotion Team from Western Local Health District and has been run for the last five years. If would like to volunteer to run or assist Aqua classes in your local community, then keep an eye out for the offer of free training.
