The Forbes community is already benefiting from a new CT service operating out of the new Forbes Hospital.
Western NSW LHD General Manager of Imaging Services Steve Adams said hospital patients and people from Forbes, West Wyalong and Condobolin are already making good use of the service, with a steady stream of people accessing it.
The CT service is run by a local Imaging team, led by their highly experienced radiologist Dr Albert Gutmann and supported by a team of specialist radiologists from Orange and the Alfred Imaging Group.
“Dr Gutmann has been working for the Health District for ten years, providing radiology reporting, support for local clinicians and guidance for the local imaging staff,” Mr Adams said.
“He is supported by Orange-based radiologist Dr Ben Reidy, who specialises in interventional radiology and has strong family connections to Central Western NSW”.
Based in Central Sydney, most of the radiologists of the Alfred Imaging Group also work as staff specialists at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. They currently provide radiology services to Bathurst, Dubbo and many other hospitals in the Health District, providing a personalised on-call CT reporting service throughout the LHD
“With this support, we can provide CT services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, supporting local clinicians to better care for their patients in their local communities,” Mr Adams said.
This expanded radiology team will mean that local doctors will be able to continue to work with the radiologist they know and have worked with for ten years, supported by a local interventional radiologist.
“It also gives them access to sub-specialised radiologists currently working in one of Australia’s leading teaching hospital,” Mr Adams said.
The service will complement the CT services which will be offered at the new Parkes Hospital when it opens shortly.
“It’s great to see these new CT services at Parkes and Forbes included in the redevelopment of Lachlan Health Service,” Mr Adams said.
