Local Health Districts Invest In Future Health Leaders

Jodie Wason and Virginia Silver from Narromine Health Service graduated from the Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) Centre for Healthcare Redesign at a ceremony in Sydney yesterday.

Graduates were awarded a diploma of project management by the Hon. Jillian Skinner MP, Minister for Health, and were given the opportunity to showcase the results of their projects to fellow school graduates, their Local Health District sponsors andACI redesign leaders.

Jodie and Virginia’s project ‘Home in the Hospital’ focuses on making a homelike environment for permanent residents at Narromine Health Service, with improved socialisation and mobility

The ACI program provides professional development opportunities for clinical and non-clinical staff leading priority projects in patient care improvement or innovation.

ACI Chief Executive Dr Nigel Lyons said the program builds skills and confidence and will help to improve the way healthcare is delivered.

“Increasing the capability of healthcare staff to partner and lead local healthcare innovation, service redesign and improvement in their own workplaces, benefits patients right across NSW” said Dr Lyons.

“Local health services and specialty health networks should be commended for continuously investing in their people to learn new skills and collaborative ways of working that can drive change and improvements across every sector of healthcare” said Dr Lyons.

The Centre for Healthcare Redesign School offers three Diploma Programs a year for managers and clinicians working in the NSW Health system. The 20 week course offers the latest knowledge and training in project management, clinical redesign and change management for healthcare professionals and managers using a variety of teaching methods including workplace coaching.

During the program, participants are supported with comprehensive training and workplace mentoring. They are also encouraged to lead a real project in their workplace and to talk with patients and staff to identify improvements.

The ACI works with clinicians, consumers and managers to design and promote better healthcare for NSW.
