The Western NSW Local Health District will showcase a diverse range of health initiatives and projects at the 2011 Health Awards Expo in Dubbo on Thursday, 30 June.
14 finalists will present their projects at the Expo, which celebrates excellence in health care.
The 2011 Awards Expo formally recognises projects and initiatives that have resulted in improving health care across the Western NSW Local Health District, said Ms Di Wykes, A/Director Clinical Governance.
The Awards acknowledge the invaluable contribution made by staff in improving patient care, clinical quality and health system performance, she said.
Projects are presented under one of 11 categories: Keeping People Healthy to Avoid Unnecessary Hospitalisation, Improving Access to Timely Quality Health Care, Empowering Patients, Improving Primary Health care in the community, Collaboration – Working as a team, Building the health workforce, Achievement in Reducing Healthcare Associated Infections, Improvement in Patient Safety, Cancer Services, Volunteer Service, Excellence in Provision of Mental Health Services. Local Health District Expo Awards include the Judges Award, the Chief Executives Award, the Peoples Choice Award, and there is potential for Highly Commended Awards.
This year’s finalists were selected from 28 high calibre nominees submitted throughout Western NSW LHD. The projects from across the District come from teams involved with hospital care, community health, mental health and drug and alcohol, health promotion and prevention, nursing, and allied health.
Ms Wykes added the Awards also provide participants with the opportunity to meet, network and form partnerships with other health professionals within the Local Health District.
Keynote speaker at the Awards Expo is Dr Karen Luxford from the Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC). The Clinical Excellence Commission, established in 2004, has a key role in building capacity for quality and safety improvement in Health Services for NSW. Dr Luxford heads up the Partnering With Patients program promoting patients, family and carers as care team members and the role of patient-based care in improving patient safety and quality in health care services.
The finalists’ projects will be presented and judged on Thursday 30 June at the Cascades Motor Inn, Dubbo.
