Bathurst Hospital Seeking Health Council Members

Members of the Bathurst community with an interest in improving local health services are being asked to nominate for appointment to the Bathurst Health Council.

Bathurst Health Council Chair John Kellett said the Bathurst Health Council provides an opportunity for community members to bring health issues to the attention of the Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD).

"Health Council members play a key role in planning and delivering health services in Bathurst and in the surrounding communities,” Mr Kellett said.

“Health Council have an opportunity to work with managers and clinical staff to identify the health needs of their community from a consumer perspective.”

The Bathurst Health Council is currently recruiting twopositions and is calling on members of the community to nominate their interest.

“Our Health Council has a strong community voice and we’re encouraging people from all backgrounds to nominate so we can continue to represent everyone’s interests,” Mr Kellett said.

"Applicants without a health background are very welcome as they are able to bring a truly independent consumer perspective to the Health Council," Mr Kellett said.

Mr Kellett said the Bathurst Health Council have been involved in a number of key events and initiatives in the past 12 months in Bathurst for which he is very proud.

“Over the past 12 months, the Health Council has helped develop the travel ‘Trip Planner’, assisted in quality improvement activities, art projects and been involved in committees and task forces such as the Acute Care Task Force,” Mr Kellett said.

“At a minimum, membership requires attendance at monthly meetings of the Health Council, but there are plenty of opportunities for wider participation in committees and workshops associated with areas of personal interest,” Mr Kellett said.

"We provide planning advice to WNSWLHD based on our local knowledge. Members are committed to giving the community a voice on issues that affect the health and wellbeing of the local community," Mr Kellett said.
