Community invited to find out more about sexual assault services
​Two forums are planned in Walgett and Lightning Ridge for community members to find out about services available in the local area to victims of sexual assault and child sexual assault. Topics include:
  • what is sexual assault
  • services available locally and specialist forensic care in Dubbo
  • responding to disclosure
  • legal assistance for victims
  • emergency housing
  • importance of talking about sexual assault without fear of shame
  • importance of working together
  • engagement of the Abori​ginal community

Forum presenters include Sexual Assault Workers from Western NSW Local Health District, local Police Domestic Violence Liaison Officers, the Aboriginal Education Team from the Education Centre Against Violence and Mission Australia.
The forums will be held in Walgett on Tuesday, 1 November at the Walgett Sporting Club, and in Lightning Ridge on Wednesday, 2 November at the Resort Restaurant.
Guest speakers will present from 10am to 1pm followed by a light lunch and then from 1:30pm to 3pm a range of self-care and fun activities are planned.
Everyone is welcome to attend. There is no cost to attend and no cost for lunch or refreshments on the day.
