Coonabarabran have your say

The Coonabarabran Health Service is taking steps to improve its overall service for the Aboriginal community.

Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) Aboriginal Workforce Capability Development and Culture Manager, Lesa Towers said, “We are taking part in the Agency for Innovation (ACI) Embrace Project”.

“The Embrace Project’s goal is to improve the experience of Aboriginal people accessing the Coonabarabran Health Service. Through creating a culturally safe environment.

“This is a collaboration between the WNSWLHD and the team at Coonabarabran Health Service.

“Current information suggests Aboriginal Patients living in the WNSWLHD are less likely to wait in Emergency Departments and a more likely to discharge against medical advice. We want to find out what we can change to make the Coonabarabran Health Service a more culturally safe environment for our Aboriginal patients”. Lesa said.

“We have developed a survey – https://qars.cec.health.nsw.gov.au/SurveyEntry/Create?p=2BD58822. It can also be found on the Western NSW Local Health District Facebook page. We are encouraging everyone in the Coonabarabran region to have a look and complete the survery”.

There are nine questions and should only take a couple of minutes.

“This will prove very important in the information we gather and the changes we can make to provide a better service for our patients, their families and carers and provide a more holistic approach to patients overall health”. Lesa said.
