How we work with media
We work closely with the media to inform the public of issues that may affect or improve their health and wellbeing. The Western NSW Local Health District’s Communication and Engagement team also respond to enquiries about health services in our facilities and communities.
To share this information, we regularly issue media releases, and also invite the media to events so they can help us promote good health in our communities.
When needed, we also issue health alerts on major public health issues or disease outbreaks. This is incredibly important information, so we appreciate the media’s support in sharing it with the public.
All media enquiries must come through the Communications and Engagement Unit in the first instance. This includes:
- Requests for interviews
- Photo requests of staff, patients or our facilities
- General enquiries about health issues
- Any condition updates on patients who have been injured in an accident or are otherwise of interest to the media
Please do not call our hospitals directly as they are not allowed to provide this information.
Our staff are not permitted to speak to journalists or representatives of media organisations without the knowledge or permission of the Director of Communications and Engagement or the Media Manager.
An On-Call Media Manager is available after normal business hours to assist media with urgent enquiries. This is organised on a roster basis and the correct person to contact is available via a voicemail message on 0427 213 587.
Please note: urgent media enquiries and condition updates will be dealt with by the On-Call Media Manager at their discretion.
